2 I noticed that in his note he said, (Chris's closest friend at Emory) in his letter. Later on, he writes his story and journal in third person. I was thinking that this meant that he already changed into Alex and was just letting them know what was happening. He also told his family that he was going to disappear for awhile. This means that he planned on coming back at some point. He just wanted to get his intense desire to travel a go places out before he would come back an settle down.

3 One circumstance might be that he was tired if the old hum drum of D.C. and wanted to start a new life, a better life. He also seemed slightly delusional about the whole thing when he was basing it on The Call of the Wild and those experiences even though the author himself never did any of those things. This is also not an isolated incident. People run off an change their names all the time to start new lives for one reason or another. Abuse, debt, old flames, and past sins are all reasons for this change. For Chris, it was the writings of Tolstoy and Thoreau that influenced him to do these things.

  1. You did a gret job Emily! I agree with some of things that you had to say.You looked at the letter in a interesting and different way than i did. You think he had plans on coming back but I don't think he did though. On part three you interpreted it in a very creative and analytical way. Great job keep working hard!

  2. Great blog here Emily! I agree with your thoughts on Chris McCandess. I like how you correalted that it was the wrtitings of Tolstoy and Thoreau that influenced him to do the things he did. I did not think about that when I was reflecting on chapter four. I also liked how you connected the book " The Call of the Wild". Great thoughts emily!

  3. Very nice blog! I agree with you when you discuss how Chris did intend to return. I found it refreshing to see you mention his intense desire to travel. Furthermore, I agree with your idea that Chris got tired of city life and wanted to escape from it! I also liked how you mentioned Tolstoy and Thoreau. It added to your blog greatly! Overall, we really have very similar ideas concerning Chris.

  4. I think you also had a great blog. I agree with you that he intended to see the world and travel. Also, I agree that intially he wanted to come back and settle down and use his diploma to help him become succesful. I believe that at some point along the line his mind was changed and he intended to live out his days, as long as he could, this way.

  5. Can I just say nice blog, I don't think you got that enough. One thing that got to me was you said he was selfish and giving. Do you think he was selfish for leaving but still giving for donating the rest of his money to charity? But over all it was a well written and thought out blog. I do agree with you and understand on why he changed his name.
